For many of us, attending the dental office can be a source of great anxiety and worry. In fact, it has been found that as many as one in three people suffer from dental anxiety. If you suffer with fear, phobia, or apprehension about visiting the dental office then you’re not alone. However, it is essential that we all visit the dental office, as missing checkups and delaying necessary treatments can result in poor dental health.
Here at Parkway Smiles Dental, we recognize and understand the severity of dental anxiety, and have therefore worked hard to build a team that creates a welcoming and comfortable environment. We also offer a range of sedation options in Calgary NW, AB to ensure that patients stay, we ensure patients are calm, comfortable and relaxed during their dental treatments.
Dental sedation is a technique that utilizes gentle sedatives to assist patients in feeling more comfortable when having treatment. Here at Panorama NW Calgary, we want you to feel as relaxed as possible, and therefore provide several options for sedation so that patients have a larger choice. The two most successful techniques used by us are Oral and laughing gas, and have a proven track record in successfully facilitating anxious patients in getting the treatment they need.
Laughing gas is inhaled by the patient through a small mask, and induces feelings of drowsiness and relaxation. Laughing gas can also help to reduce your gag reflex. This sedation method is fast acting, has no side-effects, and wears off soon after a patient removing the breathing mask. These characteristics make it a great option for those of us who lead busy lives and have remain on the ball following an appointment.
This method of sedation is accomplished by simply taking a pill, often called ‘sleep dentistry’. Oral sedation will cause you to feel sleepy and relaxed. At our Dental Clinic Calgary NW, we offer a range of different kinds of sedatives that all have varying properties. Before any course of oral sedation is decided, we will decide upon a type of drug and dosage that is suitable to your needs. One benefit of oral sedation is that it prevents patients from recalling their dental appointments, meaning they can wake up with healthier teeth, and without any memory of the uncomfortable treatment.
It is critical to have someone else drive you to and from your dental appointment when undergoing oral sedation.
Remember your comfort is our number one priority, so if you feel tense, nervous, or anxious in any way before your treatment, then do not hesitate to talk to our experienced team about dental sedation.
