At Parkway Smiles Dental, we provide a variety of different fillings to cater to your dental needs.
Direct fillings are used when a tooth has a cavity but the overall structure of the tooth is still intact. Direct fillings are placed directly into a prepared cavity within a single appointment. Using a composite resin, we apply layers to the cavity until a normal tooth structure is restored; the final layer of the filling is shaped so that it looks and feels natural. In order to avoid feeling any discomfort, we can provide you with a local anesthetic in order to numb the tooth.
Indirect fillings are used when a tooth has decayed to the point where the overall structure of the tooth is damaged. Indirect fillings involve fabricating and fitting an inlay, which is a solid substance made of either ceramic or gold that fits perfectly into the existing cavity. This inlay is then cemented into the existing cavity to completely restore the shape and function of the damaged tooth. As with direct fillings, an indirect filling can also greatly help in preventing any further tooth decay. We can also provide a local anesthetic when carrying out the procedure.
Sometimes your smile needs a makeover, cosmetic fillings can help do that!
Composite bonding is a cosmetic technique wherein a type of dental material – in this case, composite resin – is shaped and molded onto your teeth to give the appearance of a straighter, whiter smile. It can also be used as a cosmetic solution to chipped teeth, gapped teeth and staining in both teeth and fillings. If you have a chipped tooth, or have one or two teeth that are in need of a little reshaping, then composite bonding could provide an effective solution
